Apple account balance shows money

I have money in my apple account but I cannot pay for subscriptions with this balance. Why wont it let me use the money?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.13

Hi Dizzy Filly,

If the thing you are buying is a gift, or if you are a Member in a Family group, the credit balance will not be used. See information in here:

OK, that sounds like it should be using your balance. If things are not properly working the way that article describes, then go ahead and contact Apple Support for assistance:
