Apple Watch Series 6 won’t charge

Apple Watch Series 6 went from 100% to 1% after being in the pool. I discharged the water and now it won’t charge and just gets really warm while staying on the apple logo?

This seems to a common issue with many series 6 watches. The first time I went into the pool and my watch is not charging and not working any more. This is contrary to Apple's advertised position of being able to swim with watch.

Very unfair if Apple does not support it free of charge and is asking you to pay for service.
