I have an old apple ID that I do not use. It has my phone number associated to it. I want to use my current apple ID with my phone number. It will not let me because that number is associated with my old apple ID.
How can i resolve this? Does deleting the old account help?

Remove the number from the Old Apple ID
In order to remove a Phone number from Apple ID trusted number
If the phone number is associated with iMessage/Face Time then you need to turn that off first.
Remove the number from https://appleid.apple.com
