Mac OS Ventura Mail Messages blinking content disapearing

MacBook Pro

13 M2 2022

Ventura 13.4

When mail receives a message with attachment (tried with small video files 1/2mb .mp4 and .mov files), the viewing pane where the body of the message should apear, disappears (wont display - I see a "blank" Message) from time to time and keeps coming back (with the attachment) every few seconds...

It is impossible to reply to the message because even when replying, the times when you are able to open a reply window, the same behaviour happens and the message and its content keeps "flashing" with content disappearing, making it impossible to write anything (in fact, writing cursor disappears along with the rest of the message).

This happens on several mail accounts.

Tried rebuild, log in-out, no solution until now...

Very frustrating...

Help :((

any ideias

Thank you

Hi m_reis,

Did you have a chance to try and download the attachment from one of those emails? If so, and you're able to view the downloaded video, make sure it's saved. Then see if deleting the attachment from the email makes the email itself viewable.

Save email attachments
1. In the Mail app  on your Mac, move the pointer over the header of a message.
2. Click the Attachment button  that appears, click the name of an attachment or choose Save All, then choose a location.
3. You can also select a message, then choose File > Save Attachments. Or drag an attachment from the message to the desktop to save it there.
4. Click Save.
Email attachments are saved in the Downloads folder, available in the Dock. To specify a different location, choose Mail > Settings, click General, then select a folder.

Delete email attachments
1. In the Mail app  on your Mac, select a message that includes one or more attachments.
2. Choose Message > Remove Attachments.
3. The message remains in the mailbox and is annotated to indicate that all attachments were manually removed. For IMAP accounts, attachments are also deleted from the mail server and can’t be retrieved.
When you delete a message that includes an attachment, the attachment is deleted too. To change this setting, choose Mail > Settings, click General, click the “Remove unedited downloads” pop-up menu, then choose an option. Mail doesn’t delete attachments that you have saved.
Mail automatically downloads attachments you receive based on the download option you set in Account Information settings in Mail.

If you're still unable to view the email, or save the attachment, and if this same issue happens with multiple email providers, we'd advise to contact Apple Support. They can take a closer look at what can be happening.

Good afternoon m_reis,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

It sounds like you are having issues responding to email messages with video files attached, and we'd like to help.

Video files of any duration are very large and hard to work with in email. We would suggest downloading the attachment to your computer and reviewing it using Quick Look, which doesn't require an app to open it.

View and edit files with Quick Look on Mac

When replying, don't choose the option to include the attachment.

If you are collaborating on video projects, try using the Shared Albums feature in Photos or share files using iCloud Drive or a service like Dropbox.

If the issue persists, please reply to this thread and we'll do our best to help you!

Take care.

Hello @judysings, and thank you so much for your reply :)

Maybe I didn't explain the issue well, but the thing is:

>>> even before opening the message (just visualising/previewing it on mail three column layout) the content within the message, the hole message, the text and also the attachment (video) disappears for a few seconds - like 30/40 seconds.

After that period of time the mail content (body and attachment) reappears for a few seconds, to disappear after another second or two... And this behaviour repeats itself.

If you try "open" the message in a new window or reply to the message, the hole content vanishes...

Bear in ming that I'm talking about small video file sizes 1-3mb videos, usually screen recordings from my iphone, sent via mail, so, no big file sizes here...

Again, thank you so much for your kind help
