How do I stop password suggestions?

Every time I create a new password, a window opens with a password suggestion. The problem is, (since the last update I believe) that now when I “choose my own”, I create my paw and click on the following field to confirm and re-enter my password but the suggestion window pops up again and deletes the original field. With this “helpful” option, I can’t create my own password? Can it be shut off?
