Full Disk Access Helpers disappear

All the items in Full Disk Access disappear and "+" will not allow adding any items from PrivilegedHelperTools. I've had to reinstall Ventura about once a week to regain the functions... It mainly affects Carbon Copy Cloner and SpamSieve

Is there an easier way to recover this function than spending over an hour waiting for Ventura to reinstall?

When I had a problem with my Dock freezing, I could go to Terminal and enter Killall Dock... any similar Terminal command?

Thanks

There you go. Look for an official uninstaller

< CleanMyMac X> Excellent marketing campaign , strong wallet vac...and one of the worst.

if in doubt search the developers website or contact their: Support/Help/FAQ/Known issues/compatibility/updates/uninstaller

Contact a third-party vendor - Apple Support

It would not surprise me if you need to reinstall the macOS after you rid the Mac of that third party app.

It begs the question what is "PrivilegedHelperTools"...(?)

I see a folder in <Macintosh HD/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools> which contains very little reflected in my Full Disk Access apps

You do not have r/w access to that Library —I have never seen a dialog however from PrivilegedHelperTools.

Never heard of this issue before, seems curious: "All the items in Full Disk Access disappear"

*** Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/Anti-Virus/VPN

all known to cause issues on the macOS

if no resolve try reinstalling the macOS on top of your existing macOS

How would we know this? The most likely explanation would be some 3rd party system modification software. The internet is absolutely full of suggestions to make low-level edits on the TCC database that runs Full Disk Access. Undoubtedly, many of those suggestions have made it into one or more hack tools.

Yes, yes, yes. You haven't installed any hacking tools. Or so you think. There is really no way to tell what software is doing internally. These apps aren't being malicious. They are merely doing exactly what everyone else does. They see something that looks clever on the internet, and they do it. Alas, "the internet" is wrong, wrong, wrong.

Sadly, the only real fix is erasing your hard drive and reinstalling Ventura yet again. Only this time, after you install Ventura, be extra careful about the 3rd party apps that you install afterwards. One of those is scrambling your Full Disk Access. Logically, this is going to be one of the apps that demands Full Disk Access to run. If you deny that access, then you probably won't have any problem in the future.

Building on the posting of @Old Toad above

Did you use Setup Assist upon the First Reboot and used the last Time Machine Backup to Migrate Everything back into the Pristine and Clean Installation ?

If so, that would have probably migrated the Existing Issues when the TM backup was made, right back into the Clean Installation.

Having looked at the latest Etrecheck Report and dissect it.

Although some do not lay all the blame on BrickMyMac, it does play a significant & major role is this computer issue.

Specific to CleanMyMac aka “ BrickMyMac “

The steps in #1 below is predicated on the Offending  Application has been Removed as per the Developers Specific Instruction

#1 - Some Contributors suggest restarting in Recovery Mode and choosing to Reinstall the Operating System over  the existing installation.

The Author of this question has already tried and the results appear to less than expected and desirable.

#2 - Then there are Other Contributors that would suggest from this link Use Disk Utility to erase a Mac with Apple silicon.

For Intel computer >> Use Disk Utility to erase an Intel-based Mac followed by How to reinstall macOS

Thereafter to start from scratch and install all Required Application directly from the Apple Apps Store or Directly from the Developer.

If going this route - I suggest Not using Startup Assist to migrate Everything back .

This will probably Re-Introduce the existing  issues back into the computer rendering the Clean Installation Null and Void.

I have the EtreCheck Pro Report I did this morning and one that I did after I reinstalled last weekend, but now do not remember how to include them here.

Use the "Share report" button in EtreCheck. That will copy the report to your clipboard.

Then, here in the forums, use the "Additional text" button in the toolbar at the bottom of the text editing area. In that "Additional text" dialog, you can paste the contents of your EtreCheck report.

Please don't route the report through Notes, Stickies, Preview, Acrobat, Word, and/or Pages. The "paste" operation is all you need.

The strange thing is EtreCheck Pro wants to have Full Disk Access as well.

Perhaps you have an old version or something. I removed that quite a long time ago.

EtreCheck can still use Full Disk Access to get a little bit more information about your Time Machine backup. I don't know why Apple has locked down the Time Machine preferences file so much. There is no personal information in that file of any kind.

However, I noticed that when people were recommending EtreCheck, they were including a very long and complicated description about Full Disk Access. I thought that might be turning people off, so I removed the Full Disk Access button. You can still enable it in EtreCheck's Preferences if you want. EtreCheck's "Storage" tool obviously still needs it, but nobody ever recommends that anyway.

And in a fitting instance of internet irony, EtreCheck usage is way down since I made that change. 😄

I can speak directly to CCC and Etrecheck applications as I use both.

When either of the two above applications are First Installed and attempts to Launch, the Application Installer will request Full Disk Access.

Depending on the actions taken by the User to Allow or Deny Full Disk access, the application will or will not be auto Added to Full Disc Access Listing

No further actions are required thereafter

At least, that is how it is working on 2 M1 and 1 M2 Apple Silicon Computers all running Ventura 13.4.1

Jul 3, 2023 9:49 AM in response to Tom Ostertag

Thank you both for your replies. Leroy says to uninstall all cleaner etc. apps... the only one I have is CleanMyMac X none of the others that weren't supplied by Apple. This just started happening after one of the updates to Ventura on a 2017 iMac (3.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5) so with the two silicon Macs that P. Phillips has, that may not be appropriate. As I said, I've had to reinstall Ventura with Recovery about once a week... and yes, it does fix the problem for a while. BUT, my question is not how Full Disk Access works, I understand the process of granting Full Disk Access. What I want to know is why it goes wrong, what can I do to stop it going wrong and is there some intermediary process say via Terminal or Activity Monitor that will be shorter than waiting an hour for Ventura to be restored each time it goes south.

Greetings Again!

The problem happened again this morning... first is a screenshot of my Full Disk Access panel before I go and reinstall Ventura so I can get my computer operating properly again.

I have the EtreCheck Pro Report I did this morning and one that I did after I reinstalled last weekend, but now do not remember how to include them here.

I would appreciate if someone could look over the reports. The strange thing is EtreCheck Pro wants to have Full Disk Access as well.

Thanks for the help!
