I know it’s an indication of something, but what? Not an update, that’s for sure. Been on months now. Just irritates. Any solutions?

When you open the settings, at top left of the settings page, just below your name, you should see a the item that requires you attention. Tapping the badged-item should reveal an explanation.


Very often a badge notification will appear if a system software update is available - or of there is a problem with your AppleID account, such as the registered payment method (often a Credit Card) requires update.


If you can post a screenshot of what you see (suitably redacted using markup tools to remove any personal or sensitive information), contributors may be better able to provide more specific information and guidance.

You can upload your screenshot using the image button at the bottom of the message editing window:
