Your best protection is to keep you Apple ID password secure and don't fall for the phishing attempts to get it from you. If someone obtains your Apple ID and Password, they could lock you out of your device and not even Anti-Virus software would protect you.

There are solid programs out there for macOS. While the risk platform is still not great, it is significantly larger than iOS/iPadOS. Crowdstrike, SentinelOne, and Cylance are all solid solutions. For a business device, I strongly recommend an Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) platform like the 3 listed above.
