when I bought my AirTag ,apple didn't mention that I couldn't use my MacBook Air...typical

Just to be clear … you can “locate” AirTags using FindMy on your MBA (or from any other of your iOS / iPadOS / MacOS “Trusted Devices”).

But you do indeed need an iPhone / iPad / iPod Touch to “pair” the tag(s) to your AppleID.

The technical requirements are spelled-out here:

Set up your AirTag using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Return it. Amazon has rather liberal return policies. No need to complain, they'll just take it back, but you do have to do so in the prescribed return window.

On the Apple site, which Amazon has a link to, AirTags are listed as an iPhone accessory.

You might have considered reading the information on the box…

It very clearly states that AirTags require an iOS or iPadOS device.

I got the iphone from apple store on grand central new york but did not get any airtag and i never heard about such thong
