Copy arranged documents, files, folders from my desk top into a new folder?

How do I copy my files, documents and folders from my desk top into a new folder, making sure they stay arranged the same as they were on my desktop when I open the new folder?

First create the new folder.

Then set the View menu to 'as Icons',

Then set the View -> Sort By menu to 'None'

Now you can drag files into this folder, and the icons should remain wherever you set it.

Once done, you can use View -> Clean Up to align icons to their closest grid intersection if that matters to you.
