I lost photos off of my phone

I had upgraded my icloud storage amount but there were pictures on my phone that weren't uploading to icloud even with my phone plugged into the computer. I clicked "download and keep originals" and then it said it was syncing - I figured to icloud but then my phone had lost the 1,000+ pictures from 2018 - 2022 and I can't find them. I've gone to "recently deleted" I have clicked back to the "optimize phone storage" and those photos are just poof gone. I want them back. HELP!

Hello help_with_photos2023,

If you saw the message "Download and keep originals", that would mean you turned the iCloud Photos service off. If you have pictures stored directly in iCloud that you want to view, you'll want to go back to Settings > name at the top > iCloud > Photos and turn the Sync this iPhone option back on.

Set up and use iCloud Photos

If you do want to stop using the iCloud Photos service and download all of your items directly to the device, you'll want to make sure you have enough space to do that. For example, say you have 10 GB worth of pictures stored in iCloud, but you only have 8 GB of free space available on your iPhone, it will not be able to download everything you have saved in iCloud.

You can use these steps to view and manage your device storage: How to check the storage on your iPhone and iPad

Cheers!
