Just solved this issue on my machine. I had our Building Tech delete all the apps that I could not update. (The problem was the apps were installed with the Admin appleID.

Once they were deleted, I could reinstall them with my Apple ID.

Hello rayo123,

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you are unable to get users that have Managed Apple IDs to access certain things, as they get an error message. This could be expected behavior for services like Photos, iMessages, and other personal iCloud data. This could also be a setting in Apple Business Manager, so please see this info:

"Service access with Managed Apple IDs

If anyone is using Apple Business Manager and Intune, I would double check that your Apple VPP Token is valid in Intune. For us, the token was active but was showing invalid in its properties. We downloaded a new token from ABM and re-linked it into connectors and tokens. There was an option for apps to automatically update during setup. We then did a manual sync on our devices and the app updated.

Also, if you go into the specific app's assignments at the bottom of the properties tab in Intune, you can set a device or user to require a certain app. This helps if you end up having to uninstall (below that) the app and install it back which would then download the most current version of the desired app.

It took a couple of hours with Apple support, but we figured out the problem. You can see the symptoms I posted in my earlier post. Here's another screenshot showing that there were 2 accounts (a .com and .edu) signed into App Store, Books, and News... and one account additionally listed Music and TV. I wanted to keep the .edu account and remove the .com.

I had been trying to sign out of the App Store, but was receiving the error messages posted by the OP.

I had already gone to the Music app and found that I was signed in with the .com account. I signed out.

Then, during my support call the Apple rep got me to open the Books app... something I don't think I've ever done. Sure enough, Books showed that my .com account was signed in. I was able to sign out from Books and -jackpot- the .com account disappeared from the screenshot above and my App Store went back to being signed into the .edu account!!!

I'm getting that exact same error in the App Store for managed Apple ID's. The posting above from jdo_apple confuses me becuase it seems to intimate that the feature is unavailble to Managed ID's, but how can that be?

I ran into this issue with some laptops that I am trying to deploy. I can't tell from this discussion if this is a bug or intended functionality. Elsewhere I have seen that app updating is a feature that should be in the MDM that may or may not actually be there, so you may be unable to update apps at all. This seems like a pretty big issue that only effects a small set of customers.

Looking at that list of disabled features, I am not sure I want Managed Apple IDs at all.

Elsewhere I read that Apple Business Essentials has update settings of Automatic download or Automatic Install but I can't even find those settings.

Hy everyone,

We have the same probleme here.

We use Apple School Manager for our appleid managed.

We use Meraki as MDM

We tried removing MDM settings on an iPad and update an app and still having this message "this feature isn't available with the apple id you're currently using".

The removing app and install again work but if we have to do it in all apps every time an update is needed it's not a good workaround.

If someone have a solution :)
