iMac 333 won't boot

I have 9.2.2 and 10.3 on a grape 333 iMac. I usually boot into 9, but I tried booting into 10 lately and I get a Terminal message after the Apple image screen.

/etc/master.password: Not a directory

/etc/master.password: Not a directory

-sh: /etc/profile:Not a directory

-sh-2.05b#

I tried every combination of keyboard commands but nothing works but the command option p r combination. Still comes up with the terminal message. Even tried booting from a Norton Utilities disk.
