If you were storing photos on a computer that are not in a library connected to iCloud, you can see if there is a copy there. If you emailed a photo to somebody you may have a copy in your sent email.

Oh, I see you have already found a method in your "best answer" post. Can you share it with us because I know a lot of other people wpost with this issue and you must have found something that nobody - not even Apple - knows about.

Once mails are deleted from trash , they are erased permanently and can't be recovered Delete email in Mail on iCloud.com - Apple Support , however they can be archived before moving to trash Delete emails on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
