Carrier locked iPhone 14 Plus

I bought a second hand iPhone 14 Plus from a private seller in Poland(my country of residence). It turns out the phone is carrier locked by AT&T and when I tried to submit an unlock request it turned out it has not been fully paid off, therefore I can't unlock it there. Is there another way to unlock it or am I stuck with a non-functional phone and a feeling of shame? The phone is not blacklisted btw.

You just signed up to complete the remainder of the term of the subsidy plan for the seller.

You’ll either need to pay AT&T their due—if they’ll even accept payment here—and then request the unlock, or try to get a refund from the seller. Or use AT&T coverage of course, but that is probably going to be expensive in Poland.

Return for refund is your best path, but you’re here asking this, which usually means the seller has disappeared.
