Updating an iPad Using a Computer:

Use My User Tip: Making Use of a Computer for Updating an iOS Device - User Tip. If any updates are available, they will install, sure enough. So, as a college (i.e. family member) if you make use theirs. I'd stay off of public LANs, when installing an update.

If you have access to a Mac running Catalina or newer, follow the instructions in the Related Article above. Otherwise, use a friend's or a public computer.
