I can't cancel a subscription for Astrolabe. I have contacted them. They ask for ss #, full cc # which I am not doing! I DO NOT see them under my Apple subscription in settings. What can I do.

It is not a subscription that is managed by Apple and you were most likely directed there from a Social Media post or website advertisement for a free astrology reading. The free reading was part of a free trial that turns into a subscription if not cancelled. You did authorized it, but were tricked into believing that you were just getting the free reading.

Since Apple has no part in this subscription, you must deal with Astroline directly for cancelling. They offer the following instructions:

To cancel your web subscription, open the Astroline web app and follow these instructions:

  1. Log in to your account using the email and password you’ve created when subscribing to Astroline.
  2. Tap the gear icon at the top right of the main screen to open ‘Settings’.
  3. Scroll down to the ‘Manage Subscription’ section and tap it.
  4. Tap the button ‘Cancel Subscription’ at the bottom of the screen.

They also have this web page with information on their limited refund policy along with cancelling your subscription.

  • What have you tried with the information provided and what did not work?
  • Did you determine if it is a website subscription managed by the developer on their website or an in-app purchase that is managed by Apple and can be easily cancelled with the supplied link?

Review this information provided by James_B_235:

- Log in to your account on the app (https://app.astroline.today) using the email associated with the subscription.

- Tap the gear icon in the top right corner to access settings.

- Scroll down to the “Manage Subscription” section and select “Cancel Subscription” at the bottom of the list.

If difficulties arise, contact the support team immediately via email at astroline.app@appdesk.zendesk.com.

You have inadvertently signed up for a subscription and were most likely linked to their site from a Social Media post or Website Advertisement, which prevents Apple from being able to manage the subscription. In the future, only use in-app purchases where the subscription will be managed by Apple and can be easily cancelled using the normal method here:

Review the information that has been provided here. Most users have followed a link from a social media post or website advertisement and were directed to their website for a free trial that became a subscription. You might not have been aware that you were signing up for a free trial as it may have been in small print on their website.

You will find links on this page to contact the company directly and also steps to take in the app that they have. Since the subscription was not started with an in-app purchase it is not being managed by Apple and you need to do that company. They are billing your card directly and it is not going through Apple.

I sent this company about 6 emails to their support team stating I wished to cancel my subscription- within an hour or so of commencing a 3 day trial for £1, but they just sent cut and paste walls of legal sounding text to effect that they couldn’t refund me (wasn’t asking for the £1 for the trial back) and that I had signed up to their service and they would not cancel because I had done their astrology quiz and scanned my palm - no useful info from it without paying more money.

They soon became quite unpleasant seemingly purposely refusing to understand what I had requested. So I ended up blocking them as it was getting me nowhere.

I then rang the fraud line on the back of my Barclays debit card and they have put a stop on my card and will be sending me out a new one.

They also advised me to go to my Apple wallet and delete my card from it as I had used Apple Pay for the supposed 3 day trial - actually not a trial at all.

They also said they had put a cancel on any further money they may try to take from my account and that if anything did come out of my account that they would refund me.

I hope that this is of some help to someone.

The bank canceling further charges to the card is the key. While the trial was started with Apple Pay, further recurring charges do not go through Apple Pay. They will bill your card directly with token provided by your bank that was sent to the merchant securely with Apple Pay. After that Apple Pay is no longer involved. Removing the card from Apple Pay is necessary simply because the card is no longer valid after it was cancelled by Barclays, but you would have still received the charges even if the card was removed from Apple Pay.

The reason why it is important that Barclay's cancels further charges is that the banks along with the PNO(Mastercard, VISA, American Express, etc) use a service called a Credit Card Updater that notifies the merchant that your card number has changed. If they did not cancel further charges, then that subscription would carry over to your new card.

I would also suggest notifying your local consumer protection agency that is responsible for reporting these scam websites. In the US, we have the FTC, but that would obviously not be same for your region and I am not sure what agency that would be for you.
