'Sharing' / Exporting GarageBand file as a ringtone.

I'm attempting to make a ringtone for my iPhone 14 - but I've been unable to share the file as a ringtone.

As instructed by a youtube video, I moved an mp3 file into GarageBand and saved it - then I'm apparently supposed to go back to "My Songs", haptic press on the file, select "Share", and share it as a ringtone.

This all goes according to plan until I press "Ringtone". When I do this the app says "Exporting as Ringtone..." but then quickly pops up with the window saying "Song cannot be exported - A song can only be exported if it contains a recording of a Touch Instrument or a Live Loops performance to Tracks view."

Even accepting the fact that this may be the case - when I add another actual live loop to the song, it still comes up with the same message.

Help!

Hi Quinn,

Seems a song is too long to be exported as a ringtone (can be trimmed to to be 30 seconds or less ).

.. also some songs / music / is copyrighted.

How to: Import a song from the Music app into GarageBand for iPhone - Apple Support

Eg says:

"You can import songs from the Music app on your iPhone into Tracks view.

You can import a song to an existing Audio Recorder or Amp track, or

have GarageBand create a new Audio Recorder track for the song.

(We can also use the "loops" already in Garageband to create our own ringtones).

For info on exporting completed ringtones:

Scroll down to: "Share a GarageBand song as a ringtone or text tone":

, in Apple Support's article below:

Share songs with GarageBand for iPhone - Apple Support

Eg: says: "The maximum length for exported ringtones is 30 seconds.

If the exported ringtone exceeds the maximum length, a dialog appears.

Tap Continue to have GarageBand shorten the ringtone automatically,

or tap Cancel to return to the song so you can shorten it".

(You can make changes using the tools available in the Garageband app.)
