Default file opens when opening app?

I know default apps can be selected for opening files...

...but can default files be selected when opening apps?

For example, I have a humungous spreadsheet I want to open on a daily basis when opening Numbers, but without having to specifically select it.

A small thing, but it would be useful..!

You can put aliases directly on the Dock, to the right of the dividing line (if your Dock is at the bottom) or below the dividing line (if your Dock is on one side).

You don't even need to create an alias, it is created automatically when you drag a file to that area of the Dock.
