How do I resize the Download folder docks

I accidentally removed my downloads folder from the dock. I added it back without problems but earlier my downloads would appear as a list with the most recent ones at the bottom, allowing me to access them quickly. To find an older download, I'd have to go to the main folder which was okay with me. However, after I re-added my download folder in docks, my 'quick access' files no longer appear on the basis of recents and they aren't in a list form either, rather they're arranged strangely and look as if I opened a folder.
