Siri activation beep removed after iOS 17 update

Removal of the Siri beep was especially frustrating for my mom who is visually impaired. She always waited for the beep to confirm that Siri was ready and listening.

After much searching, I found a way to bring back the Siri beep in iOS 17:

1. If your phone is on Silent Mode, turn Silent Mode OFF using the switch above the volume buttons
2. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch
3. Turn the Vibration setting OFF (it is likely on by default)

You should now hear a confirmation tone each time you activate Siri.

I can't explain why you still had the beep. But, as it is no longer a supported feature, there are no settings for it.

Since Apple introduced phones with faster processors, you don't need to wait between "Hey, Siri..." and your question. Just ask the whole thing at one go.

The reason there was originally a beep is that the phone processor wasn't powerful enough to both wake up and answer the question. It needed to be done in two steps. As the processors got more powerful, the phone could do it all at one go. I would imagine the sense was that it was more natural to be able to take to Siri like you would a person. But, of course by then, people had gotten used to the beep.

Now that the “beep” after speaking a text has been removed she automatically replies when I don’t want to. When it reads me a text in Apple play and asks if I want to reply I say no and she sends the word no

But now when using car play when she asks if I want to reply I say no and she sends a text saying NO, or if I say cancel she sends CANCEL. The beep would signal her to listen now with iOS 17 hands free is useless

Thanks for this answer. It worked for me. I'd prefer to not have to turn off all vibration, but I'll live with it. If you really want the sound back let apple know via their feedback process. If the get enough request they may put it back.

It is unlikely to be added back as it has been deemed redundant. You know Siri is active because it answers you.

So, you say, "Siri, what time is it?" and you don't get an answer? You're not supposed to say "Siri......" and wait until something happens. Just say the whole question at once.

I tried this and nothing changed!
