Just updated to IOS 17, most of it seems excellent but the updated notification sounds are to quiet. I haven’t found a way to change the default system sound back to the tri-tone or something loud.
anyone have any ideas?

Yes, they are quieter. There is currently no way to change that
I suggest that you submit feedback to Apple:
Note that iOS 17 is not yet an option for selection in the drop down menu. Just make sure it's in the text box.
