Unable to change Apple id

I have been able to change my apple id on my iphone, my ipad, and my laptop. For some reason i can't change it on my mac. I get a message that tells me i can't use a password that has been used in the past year. I have never used this password, in fact i just made it up. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you

You should only have to change it in one place and it will transfer it to other devices automatically. Read about what to do after [or before] you change your Apple ID email address or password - What to do after you change your Apple ID or password - Apple Support

Not that an "Apple ID" is an email address. the password is something else.
