Moving from an iPhone X running iOS 16.x to an iPhone 11 running iOS 17.x - can it be done?

Hi,

My wife has an iPhone X running iOS 16.x. We are looking to move her to an iPhone 11 running iOS 17.x, but I was under the impression that the only way to do this is if both iPhones are running the same versions of iOS?

Is there way to do this without having to start from scratch? It would be a total nightmare if we have to re-download all her apps, and re-configure everything... Surely Apple have realised people would be looking to do this once the iPhone X couldn't use iOS 17?

No problem doing that. You can always migrate from a lower number version to a higher numbered version. You just can’t go the other way. Here is guidance on how to do that→Transfer data from your previous iOS or iPadOS device to your new iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
