What OS for older Mac desktop?

I am a novice user with a Mac desktop (late 2013 model) with the MacOS High Sierra version10.13.6 operating system. What is the latest OS I can install on this Mac and how do I do that? Thank you.

Windows, Windows 10

Which Mac Desktop exactly? An iMac or a Mac Pro?

Depending on the exact type of Mac will be what you can update to.

For instance, a Late 2013 Mac Pro, can update to macOS 12 Monterrey

But a Late 2013 iMac can update only as far as 10.15 Catalina.

To download the relevant version, use the links in the support document below.

Note, that any version of macOS past Mojave (that is Catalina or Later) cannot run 32 bit apps. Which means most of the apps you have on High Sierra will not work and require an update or replacement.
