gray Home Screen/wallpaper on iMac that will not change

hello. I downloaded the new macOS last night. Everything was fine and dandy and the new screensavers/wallpaper were working great. this morning when I woke up the Mac it went to a gray wallpaper and it will not change. The screensaver works just fine but when I go back to the Home Screen it instantly goes back to the gray background. Ive reset it a few times already today. When I go into settings it shows that the wallpaper(Grand Canyon at dusk) is selected. when you tell it to go to the Lock Screen the screen saver instantly comes on and does it thing. this is driving me nuts. ive tried to change wallpapers and nothing will get the gray background off.

I did this and it did not help. Any other ideas?

Either way, this needs to get fixed in one of the next updates
