Birthdays added to existing contacts not showing up in calendar

I'm having an issue with my 15 Pro Max on iOS 17.0.2-I'm adding birthdays to existing contacts and they're not showing up in my (native) Calendar App. But I pulled up my iPad that's still running iOS 14.3 and I see the birthdays in the Calendar app!

All events are synced, I forced closed the apps, powered off/on, hard reset, still nothing.

Thanks for responding. When I tap on Calendars at the bottom, Birthdays is already with a check mark.FYI-I see all previously existing birthdays, I'm just not seeing new birthdays that I'm adding now.

update: I added a new birthday to an existing contact (never had a bday on this contact before) using my iPad on iOS 14.3; the birthday showed up in Calendar on both my iPad and iPhone within a few seconds, and the birthdays I added on my iPhone that weren't showing up on iPhone now showed up! Then I added another new birthday to an existing contact on iPhone and within a few seconds it showed up in Calendar. this was a WEIRD icloud/calendar BUG that i managed to shake off.
