There is a way to suppress that aggravating Caps Lock icon, but it is technical in nature, and does work as I implemented it. See the "Best answer" solution here. Requires an administrator password. Worked in Sonoma 14.0 and continues to work in 14.1.

As a bonus, the floating input method (e.g. U.S.) in the Terminal and other text input fields was also suppressed.

I think this is in reference to that highlight color ⇧ floating symbol annoyingly reminding the user that their caps lock key is selected.
