I came here to report a similar problem. I can open GarageBand, but if I try to close or open a project, it stops responding and requires a Force Quit.
I've tried opening several new and old files, restarting my computer, and deleting and redownloading the app.
I'm still running 14.0
UPDATE: I was finally able to open a new file, but it took an inordinately long time.
I did have sort of the same problem. It looked like it didn't start, but I was able to run Garageband, but nothing appears on my screen. I do had the ability to open a song, or use my midi keyboard and play instruments. Still nothing to see on my screen.
I tried to start my MacBook in Safe Mode, but nothing helpful appears when opening Garageband.
Then I re-installed Mac OS Sonoma, and tried to open Garageband, but still had the same problem. Then I was thinking about, it looks like Garageband is running, but it doesn't appear on my screen.. what if I connect my MacBook to a second screen, and that's where my Garageband appeared.
Maybe for you not the exact solution, but have you tried to re-install Sonoma?
Or tried to search for an update via the App Store?
EDIT:
Do you use a kind of Audio Interface?
I use the Focusrite 2i2 3rd edition, and it seems when I startup Garageband, it works (well only when I open it, and then connect my MB with a second screen), and when I plug in my Focusrite, Garageband stops working...
Hi, I'm shortly going to replace my ten year old Intel iMac with an M3 iMac. I currently use the Focusrite 2i2 3rd edition with my old iMac without this problem (other than the fact that my iMac can be rather slow now). Just wondering if this issue has now been resolved for you? I have no plans for a second screen.
I used the Reshow USB player to convert tape cassettes using Garageband with Sonoma 14.2.1 when done I click Share and select Song to Music. All the tracks get to Music, but many have no sound when 'played'. I can see the progression through the track but no sound. These are 20-30 year old tapes, but some are 100% converted, others will go 'dead' after playing for minutes. The 'Get Info' selection for the song shows info but I can't interpret what some the info means. At a dead end.
