iPad & iPhone Charging Speed

Why does my iPad (9th Gen) charge so fast compared to my iPhone XS Max?

To charge my iPad from 0-100% it takes around 1h 30m - 1h 45m. However, for my iPhone, it’ll take almost 2h 30m although the battery is smaller, and I use the same charger for both.

Any ideas?

Your iPad is designed to fast-charge from a USB PD (Power Delivery) compliant Power Adapter - whereas your much older model iPhone XS does not support this charging standard.
