Devices having trouble syncing messages

Both my mac and my Iphone have been synced for about 8 months now through my apple ID. But lately some text messages will show up on my Iphone but not my mac and vise versa. It's getting really frustrating as I text on both devices and would like to see ALL messages that I have sent and received on either device. I have looked it up and shut down both devices but nothing is working. I'm willing to try anything!
