Stop automatic downloads to itunes/Music

I'm just setting up a new laptop and Music has started downloading thousands and thousands of tunes! I need to be able to select tunes when I need them, not clog up my storage like that.

Can anyone help?

When migrating from my old MacBook Pro, it transferred many songs to my hard drive (over 100 GB worth). I have iTunes Match and currently subscribe to Apple Music. I don't see the option to "remove download" anymore, just "remove from library". It would be great to get these songs in the cloud to free up my hard drive space. Any advice will be appreciated. iTunes Automatically Downloads Songs Not In My Library. iTunes automatically downloads music to my Mac that are not added to my iTunes library. Those songs most probably belong to playlists I have added to my library. These songs are in those playlists but are not added to my library. Yet iTunes downloads those songs without my consent and stores them on my Mac eating up gigabytes of storage. How can I disable those auto downloads while retaining the playlists.

iTunes vs Apple Music? I am trying to clean up my MacBook and see that I have 61GB of music stored locally. I have Apple Music so wondering if I need my iTunes music files anymore?
