Extremely slow app downloads

I'm trying to download a game (Star Wars Castaways) from the app store, but the download is extremely slow (ie. dial-up level slow), I have a 500Mbit connection (verified to be working as expected through multiple channels and tests), but the download speed stays around 100kbits. The 1.6Gb game is expected to download in 4.5 hours.

Any idea why this may be happening?

for context, the same game downloaded in about 40 minutes the previous day to another mac. Faster than what I'm facing today, but still way below what I'd expect with my connection.
