When i record my voice in garageband, the audio cuts out with higher pitches

I got a new laptop after my other screen broke. and the GarageBand was FINE. But then when I migrated all of my information from my old laptop to my new laptop, the GarageBand stopped working. Anytime I record my voice, the audio cuts out and in, especially with higher pitches. This happened on my old laptop (Mac book air) and I was happy it worked on my new laptop (same Mac book air) but then after the migration it stopped working again!
