Our school uses Apple School Manager and we would like to use keynote in the classes on the ipads. Our IT technician has told me keynote cannot be used through Apple School Manager, is this correct? If it can't be used are there any good alternatives? Many thanks :)

Keynote can 100% be assigned to an MDM using ASM and the MDM framework 100% allows for installation. Whether your MDM supports this is a different question.
