"Trust this computer?" on Apple Watch at least daily

At least once a day, sometimes more often, I randomly get the "Trust This Computer?" prompt on my Apple Watch Series 4. The computer in question is my 2021 MacBook Pro. I say that, yes indeed, I do trust it, enter my PIN and that's - at least until the next time, which is too soon for my taste.

This has been going on for a while, pre-iOS 17 (I'm currently using the latest version of all of Apple's OSes; I update religiously), though it seems to be happening more frequently lately.

As I understand it, this may relate to backing up my Watch (though I was under the impression that the Watch backs up to an iPhone, not a Mac). I do have my Watch set to unlock the Mac, but the prompt never coincides with an unlock. It often happens when I am not even sitting at my Mac.

Is there anything I can do to see this less? I could see a monthly or even weekly request, but daily seems a bit much.
