GarageBand won’t download to my iMac

I have a late 2012 iMac running OS 10.15.7. With this OS it won’t run the version of GarageBand I had, so I followed the prompt to update it.

I get a message saying I can’t download the newer version because my iMac is running 10.13 - which a quick check on “About my Mac” confirms isn’t true.

How can I get GarageBand working again?

As you have GarageBand already then it should be listed in your Purchased page in the App Store.

Try this.

Drag your current version of GB to the trash, but do not empty the trash just yet.

Open the App Store and go to your Purchased page . For 10.13 do this by clicking on the Purchased tag at the top.

For 10.15.7 click on your account which is your name at the bottom left of this page.

You should now see on your Purchased page the app GarageBand amongst other apps such as iMovie etc.

Hopefully, you will see a download symbol against GB or the word GET or Download.

Clicking on this you will be offered a version of GB that is compatible with your current OS.

The problem here is that there seems to be some conflict with what version of Mac OS is installed, but worth a try.
