GarageBand: MIDI track disappeared from session but I still hear it playback?

I started this GBand project a little over a year ago. I’d made a MIDI track to simulate a piano sound in place of a vocal melody meant to be recorded later. Now when I open it, there is no track with those notes anywhere and yet I still hear it in the playback! How is that possible?

I’ve tried ctrl+click on the project file to “show package contents” and see if it’s in the Media folder, but no midi tracks are in there which kind of makes sense. I’m just totally confused as to why I can hear it but not see it anywhere.

Soloing individual tracks does exactly what you would expect, as in the sound didn’t double up or otherwise get combined with any other track.

Does this maybe have to do with updating to the latest version?

Hope someone can help!
