Collaborating with GarageBand

I have been sharing GarageBand files via an iCloud shared drive with a friend and, while we try and re-name versions we've been working on so that the names are unique, we open find we've both updated the same file with the result that the updates whomever saved it first loses their updates.

Is there a way of configuring Mac OS to prevent opening of the file if it's already open?
