GarageBand playback looks jerky with Sonoma

I updated my MacBook Air to Sonoma 14.4.1 the other day. That OSX update included the update to my GarageBand installation, getting it up to 10.4.11.

However, when I tried running the GB app today as I always do (editing my podcast, which I've used GB for now for more than six years), playback suddenly is very jerky. This wouldn't be such a big deal, expect that it makes editing and scrolling through my project awkward and difficult.

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing GarageBand, to no avail.

Any help is appreciated.
