My iPhone constantly asks for password even though Face ID is setup

Even though I have Face ID set up properly I am constantly told by my phone "your passcode is required to enable Face ID”.

I understand there are cases which this will happen (e.g. when iphone is shut down, is inactive for hours, etc)

but this is not the case!!! I walk away from my phone for minutes and pick it up and it happens. I’m driving and it happens all the time.

beyond maddening. Any tricks to make this stop?? I also understand that if FaceID fails (anyone know how many times??) this will happen. I’m not failing more than once or twice if this happens.

This is a completely unhelpful response. I have the same issue where I will have the phone open and using it, set it down for maybe 30 seconds, and then pick it back up, and it will not let me use FaceID even though it's bright out and I haven't done anything that would cause it to be disabled.

What exactly is causing Face ID to not be available and how can we prevent that?

Ever since I updated (IOS17.5) my phone (15ProMax) has the same issue has. It’s constants asking for PW. While I’m driving and wearing sunglasses (never used to be an issue). When your phone goes to the black screen it is very distracting trying to punch in a 15 character PW while driving just so you can Waze or get to a new music album. It’s unsafe. Apple should take this into consideration. And yes, I have Apple CarPlay, but it’s very glitchy in BMWs, so I don’t use it.
