hi i'm using ipad 10 th gen with updated Ipad OS 17.5.1. however when i open setting >> display and brightness i can't find 'lock/unlock' setting, according to my understanding it should appear when we want to disable or enable smart folio

That case isn’t compatible with your iPad because I have exact iPad and that option it’s there under auto lock option , your iPad it’s fine but the case doesn’t work with that feature
