I have joined a family plan but can't downgrade my own plan

Hello! I joined my Family Sharing Plan which has more than enough capacity, but am unable to downgrade my own storage plan to a FREE one. Any suggestions on how to do this? I'm makign the changes on my account via a Macbook Pro.
