Apparently, Apple has lost 166 GB from iCloud what can I expect in compensation?

So Carl at Apple Senior tech-support tells me that engineering is unable to resurrect my data. I haven’t had a computer in three months that works normally - my devices keep going in and out of activation lock to that account that Apple deactivated/failed to restore. It’s unclear that I own anything at all in my house. (13 devices altogether.) I literally have nightmares about Apple every night.

Had anyone ever been compensated for what this company does to their data? I’m wanting to report this to the police, but I don’t even know what terminology to use. I had hoped that perhaps I could use my homeowners insurance since I have to buy a new computer. I’ve given up after three months. Apple doesn’t fix anything. They only make it worse. My desktop and laptop computers have become very expensive digital frames for photographs that were supposed to be safely stored on iCloud.

It has always been recommended to have a backup for your data and Apple even provides the Time Machine software to make that happen. There are other alternative backup solutions as well. iCloud is not a backup solution, only a syncing service.

Seems like the issues you are having with your account and access are because those were setup by your husband and the Apple ID is an individual account without the ability for a shared owner. The iCloud data is associated to the person who set up the account.

It can't be stressed enough that you should always have a second copy if not more of your data stored someplace else and I don't suggest on any clouds that are offered by companies, be it Apple, Microsoft, Dropbox, Box.net, Google, etc, etc. If you have TimeMachine or a third party backup routine, thats great but for you most valuable data I would have another separate back back up for that data, be it documents, photos, etc, etc.

thanks for your reply. Since my husband passed, I don’t know what he was thinking. Most likely he thought if you had the same precious data on two different computers and on iCloud that should be sufficient. When it comes to Apple though they have the ability to take away access to all three at once. They managed to deactivate the associated Apple ID and for a month they’ve been unable to locate the iCloud data. I may be able to manually drag and drop some files off of both of the computers but what a mess.

I had tried to use the AppleCare+ on the Laptop to get help and they declined. I took one laptop into the Apple Store and said the tech-support people say you’ll help me try to get the data off of it and they laughed.

So having the originals on two different computers and insurance on one of them isn’t enough. I don’t know what’s enough. (I think maybe I’ll print photographs and put them in a shoebox.)
