Transferring music from IPOD Classic to new MacBook running Sonoma. I'm New to Mac.

I have a lot of music and stuff on two old IPOD classics and would like to get that from the iPod onto my new MacBook Air running Sonoma. I'm new to Apple computers as I have always used PC's. I vaguely remember disabling the sync feature with the IPODs, I think, but just to make sure I don't erase them I need the basics. I Appreciate any help.
