reading external text with iPad?

I am not totally blind but my vision is pretty bad. I would like to point my iPad camera at words, for example, a book page, and have it read aloud. (a paper book).

Bixby vision supposedly does it. I tried it on my Samsung android phone and it is absolutely infuriating. However, the concept of what it is supposed to do is probably what I need.

it reads what I point it at.

Problems:

  1. It is on an android phone, not my iPad.
  2. It doesn’t let me choose what and when to read. I have to trigger it and hope it is pointed at the right thing when it finally recognizes some text.
  3. It never gets the reading order correct.
  4. It does things I didn’t tell it to do and doesn’t ask.

What options are available for iPad?

Are there built in solutions?

I already use Speak Screen, Speak Selection and Speak on Touch for reading anything on the iPad. I need to be able to read with the camera, if possible.

using the camera text recognition, selecting the text and tapping read is a slow and clunky multi-step process that works for very short bits of text in a very few situations.

There’re some apps that might help you to read text. Be my eyes, “ o si lo traducimos al español, Se mis ojos” uses AI to describe images and summarize the text that you want to read. You can use this app with spoken content and the Apple Siri neural engine voices, so you can have natural sounding voices describing to you any image or summarizing you any text
