iPhone backup to Mac not showing up (but on file system)

I'm trying to verify that my phone is backed up (locally, no iCloud) after waiting forever for the backup to supposedly complete, but Finder says

"Last backup on this Mac: Never"

Curiously, after clicking "Manage backups...", I see a backup named "Unknown" and dated "12/31/00, 4:00 PM". My file system has newly created files/folders under Application Support/MobileSync/Backup.

What is going on?
