After updating to Logic Pro 11, when using the ‘esc’ key to pull up tools, my keyboard and mouse stop working

I have had this happen at least 20 times since upgrading to LP11: First it was on my wireless keyboard; so I assumed it could be that. Now it just happened on the built-in laptop keyboard.

When in Logic using the esc key to pull up the tools, the screen flashes white (like someone taking a flash pic) and then both the esc button and the space bar no longer work and I have to quit and re-launch.

Any Ideas?
