How do I add my iCloud account to gmail on Mac?

Context: Recently, I decided to use my iCloud account as my main email. Along with using the Apple Mail app, I would also like to use my iCloud account in Gmail. Though I looked at a few forums and successfully added my iCloud account to my iPhone's Gmail app, I still needed to add it to my Mac. When I tried logging in to Gmail on Mac with my iCloud account, it didn't recognize it as an active account.

Question: I would like to know how to add my iCloud account to Gmail (if possible) on Mac.

By adding to Gmail do you mean to some app you downloaded that you use check youe email , or do you mean the Gmail website?

If the App, follow the steps provided by the App to add your account. You'll likely need to to generate a app specific password for it from iCloud.

If you mean to the Gmail website, then you cannot. They are different email providers, different services. Gmail has no way of just accessing Apple's secure iCloud website. And while you can add other email accounts to Gmail to access, you can't just log in to Gmail with an account from a different provider. Google has no way to validate your iCloud credentials. Google can't just hack into iCloud to verify that your iCloud account and password are valid.

Hello Phil0124,

Yes, I did want to add my iCloud account to gmail.com, and this solves the issue well.

This is a much better solution than what I was thinking of. Having the inbox of my Gmail & iCloud account available at the same time is more convenient than switching between both. Unfortunately, when I tried to add my iCloud account, I got this error after waiting for a little bit.

When I clicked the "Show error details" button, the window displayed this message:

"Server returned error: 'Connection timed out: There may be a problem with the settings you added. Please contact your other email provider to verify the correct server name and port.'"

TLDR: When I put in my iCloud account, I was not given the option to "Gmailify" it.
