Logic Pro Beach Balls on startup

I'm running Big Sur 11.7.10 on a late 2014 iMac (5k Retina, 27"). Logic Pro version is 10.7.4. It's recently started beach balling when I start it up - it gets to the project template screen and then the ball spins and I can do nothing.

I've tried deleting com.apple.logic10.plist and com.apple.logic.pro.cs from ~/library/Preferences and it's made no difference.

I've also tried deleting and reinstalling Logic. Still the same issue.

Weirdly, Logic worked yesterday, now is kaput. Nothing has changed, I'm still using the same audio interface and MIDI devices but one day it works, next day the beach ball of Doom.

I see that a lot of people have reported similar issues and I've tried some of the suggested fixes but to no avail - I'm hoping that someone with more experience than I might be able to make some suggestions before I go and buy Reaper instead....

Thanks!

Logic Pro startup issues can be resolved by starting in Safe Mode, checking for conflicting software, updating and reinstalling components, repairing permissions, creating a new user account, resetting Logic Pro preferences, reviewing console logs, deleting and reinstalling Logic Pro completely, and contacting Apple Support. These steps should help diagnose and resolve startup issues with Logic Pro on your iMac. If the problem persists, it might be best to contact Apple Support for further assistance. By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and hopefully resolve startup issues with Logic Pro on your iMac.

Thanks, I’ll give those suggestions a try.

Given that the iMac is ten years old and it’s not able to run the latest Logic, I doubt Apple support can help very much. I think I’ll retire the machine to just basic browsing and document writing duties and move Logic to my Mac Mini. It’s a 2018 model so it still runs the latest Logic version and if I upgrade the RAM it should do the job for another few years.

Thanks for the input though. There are a few things there I haven’t tried so useful to know.
